If you have never had to welcome a specialist into your home — be they an electrician, movers, a construction team, or a plumber — it can feel like a daunting prospect at first, especially if you aren’t entirely sure what will be required over the course of that specialist’s job.

Thankfully, the kinds of things you need to do to prepare for a plumber are quite simple and are often very similar to the steps you might want to take to prepare for a visit from any number of other specialists that you may call in to do work on your home.
- Clear the area. The best, most important thing you can do to make sure that your plumbing appointment goes well is to make sure that the area around where your plumber will be working is cleared of all valuables, debris, and other items. Make sure breakable fixtures, heirlooms, and other things you care about are safely out of the way. If you are having trouble with the sink, make sure all the cleaning supplies and other things in the cabinet under the sink are similarly cleared away.
- Unplug any appliances. If there is a possibility that water might find its way onto any of your appliances, such as a hairdryer, it will be best to take those out of the area as well, for the safety of your appliance as well as the plumber.
- Clear a path. Making sure the plumber can get to whatever they’re fixing is almost as important as making sure they have space to work once they get there. Whether it’s work outside, in a basement, or just in a particularly cluttered section of your house, try to clear the way.
We appreciate your interest in accommodating our plumbers, and we hope that this has helped you to feel a little bit more prepared about any upcoming jobs you may have in your home!
