The Top 3 Causes of a Clogged Sink

A clogged sink is never fun to deal with. With over 20 years of experience in the plumbing business, our team of experts has seen it all when it comes to clogged sinks. In this article, we’ll list the top three causes of a clogged sink, and how to prevent clogs in the future.

First, one of the most common causes of a clogged sink is human hair. If you get ready for the day every morning in your bathroom over your sink, and your morning routine includes brushing your hair, blow drying your hair, styling your hair, etc. that hair is falling into your sink, and then into your drain, daily. Over time this causes major clogs and will take some work to get unclogged.

Next, soap and other product residue can cause a clogged sink. Product residue can include makeup, hairspray, shaving cream and more. Soap and product build up over time and eventually reduce the size of the pipe where water would typically flow.

Lastly, clogged sinks in the bathroom could be caused from hard water. If you have hard water, you will know it.  The residue left by hard water on glass in the shower and other fixtures in your bathroom is super visible and hard to clean. Overtime the hard water creates mineral deposit blocks in your pipes, causing a clogged sink.
